Amy Gibbings is a Manchester based artist, producing stunning, hand printed, black and white images at affordable prices. Topics range from striking cityscapes of New York, Venice and Manchester... to evocative landscapes and still life; in styles to complement any interior, contemporary or traditional, domestic or corporate. Amy gibbings photographs landscapes in the work and the topic I am studying is landscapes within Manchester and the images above are all images that I will try to recreating. Composition
the composition of the photo is that the photo is black and white and it has a stable aperture and shutter speed the white balance is normal as the lighting doesn't seen to be affected by the black and white. As a result, your photograph becomes more dynamic and visually more interesting. in the photo the rule of thirds is a band in the middle also the shutter speed will be long so that you can allow as much light into the photo as possible. |

in Amy's pictures the use of gray tonal scale is used to sow a modern day picture but puts a vintage feel towards it. also the gray scale shows in depth all the features in the buildings inside of the images shows part of the building in funky angles to all of the images are relevant to my projects as they arnt clear on where they are from until you look indepth into the image. Connection
within this project i will link the images by going around Manchester and taking pictures of famous landmarks before manipulation the into Photoshop and then add a black and white filter to recreate the depth of the images. but also the fact the images witch i think that she uses the black and white images to show the main features of the building ans so that all the spaces with shadow are shown well Context:
I am a versatile and creative photographer based in London, but my true passion lies within travel photography. I love to travel and record the images of life I see around me. I'm willing to take risks to achieve what is needed for a great shot. The limitations of photography are in yourself, for what we see is only what we are. info found at"https://www.robertharding.com/photographers/simon-montgomery/" |
Best
Symmetry, is what makes me adore this picture because the water that's falling on both sides splits in the middle, falling into a triangle shape. The high shutter that I set it on makes everything look even more pleasing. I do believe that the I could've made the shutter speed more quick given that the water droplets are slightly blurred. |
Worst
Personally, this had no direction to it, no sweet spot, no distance or backgrounds. It looked really random however, one element that does stand out is the still water at the back and the moving water at the front. |
Best:
The intricacy of the photo is was alludes me to put it in one of the bests. The contrast of the black and slight white but beige makes the holes stands out. It's quite satisfying to look at as well, very smooth and a simple pattern. |
Worst
I didn't like how this turned out because, the background was ugly, and a person was in the shoot however, the framing of this, is something I'm really fond of as well as what you see in the middle ground (the rest of the holes and patterns) |
Best
I admire this picture as the background is clearly showing the urbanised area and atmopshere of Manchester. I also like the crystal ball because it's upside down which gives a different element to the photo. |
Worst
I don't like this image because the background is limited and the hand is close up which draws the attention of the audience towards the hand rather than the image. |
Best
This turned out to be the best photo that I took as it was straight at the face, the lighting was correct as it wasn't dark or light. Thje contrast of the blue and the white is noticable which makes the I, W and M stand out. |
Worst
Glare in the blue made everything look tacky and unprofessional however, I do admire the view that it's at - it's more unique and different (at a worms eye view). |
Best
This image is better thyan to the left as this show less public passssing the image and the model is still without any distoursion lines. |
Worst
This image is less atractive than to the right as this show more public passing the image and the model is still smoking and has distoursion lines. |
Best
I love how the tyres have this vintage overlook but even futher, this colour variation of black and white. The futher you look into the foreground, middle ground and background the tires seem to clear up, and become pristine - the rocks in front of them just illuminate even futher the texture, what with them being unqiue colours of purple and different sizes. |
Worst
This is my worst image becauase it doesnt show the stone texture that I intended to capture. I was much futher away from the spot and even though it had a great use of composition with the boat and the gurdges, it still doesn't fit into the category as much. |

The structure of the image is in a lot of detail as it shows the water smothered by a long shutter speed with as strong aperture to capture the sunset in the background. this image is relatively new as it has been taken in the last 5 years. this image is in color with stable saturation. this image was take in West Anglesey this image consists of water and a stationary rock with a sunset within the background. Connection
I will link my work with the use of water and rocks for example rocks sitting in water this will be relevant because in my theme of landscapes I can add my own ideas so I could add rocks and water to my plan. in my option I like this image because of the smooth water and the rock acting like a barrier for the water and how it breaks up but stays moth because of the shutter speed |
